Shrimp Dip Recipe Highlights

  • TIME – Unlike a hot shrimp dip requiring baking, this dip can be whisked together in about 10 minutes flat.
  • INGREDIENTS – This dip is made with just a handful of ingredients. The only ingredients you’ll probably have to shop for are the cans of tiny shrimp because the rest are probably already in your fridge and pantry!
  • CROWD-FRIEDNLY – This is a great appetizer dip for a crowd. It’s fancy enough for a Christmas and New Year’s Eve party but casual enough for Game Day or a summer potluck.
  • TASTE & TEXTURE – This dip is a perfect blend of zesty and savory flavors with just a hint of spiciness. The creamy base is complimented by crunchy red onions and creates the perfect backdrop for the tiny shrimp.

Ingredients needed to make Shrimp Dip.

CREAM CHEESE – The cream cheese needs to be softened. Either take it out of the fridge 30-45 minutes before preparing the dip or place it in the microwave and choose the “soften cream cheese” setting.

SOUR CREAM – This will add a hint of delicious tanginess to the dip. Use full-fat or reduced-fat sour cream. Alternatively, you can also use Greek Yogurt.

LEMON – Use one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. And use the zest of one lemon. Using lemon zest is optional but recommended.

HOT SAUCE – This dip lives by the balance of flavors. Adding a dash of hot sauce introduces a little bit of heat without overpowering the other ingredients. If you like more spice in your dip, add more hot sauce. One teaspoon at a time.

WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE – This is what we use to add lots of different sweet, tart, and umami flavors.

Variations

MAYONNAISE – If you like the shrimp dip to be less tangy, substitute the sour cream with the same amount of mayonnaise.

SEASONING – Because Worcestershire sauce takes care of a lot of the flavoring, I don’t use anything but lemon juice and hot sauce.

But if you like, you can add a dash of garlic powder. If the hot sauce is too spicy, try some chili sauce which is a bit sweeter.

If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce, try old bay seasoning.

I don’t use salt and pepper to season because I don’t think it’s necessary, but this is where you can customize the dip to your liking.

GARNISH – I typically garnish this creamy dip with fresh parsley. I happen to think that parsley compliments the other ingredients. Other garnishes that work well are fresh chives and thinly diced green onions.

Serving Ideas

CRACKERS – Choose whichever type of cracker you like best. My husband and I have been longtime fans of this cracker. Pita Chips are

BREAD – Tearing off a piece of homemade bread (super easy recipe) is another addictive way to enjoy this dip. If you don’t want to bake your bread (do try, it’s so much easier than you might think).

VEGETABLES – Baby carrots, sliced celery sticks, cucumber slices, and broccoli florets are always on our snack and dip platters.

Leftovers

STORE – Place any leftovers in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days.

FREEZE – This dip should not be frozen.
