APPLE PIE FILLING – This gives our dish its sweet and tangy apple flavor, forming the base of our dessert.
SPICE CAKE MIX – This ingredient adds the rich, warm flavors of fall spices that perfectly complement the apple filling.
GINGER ALE – The bubbles in ginger ale help to create a light, fluffy texture in the cake, and its ginger flavor enhances the spice cake mix.
How To Make An Apple Spice Dump Cake
Please check the printable recipe card below for more detailed instructions.
- Spread the apple pie filling evenly in a baking dish.
- Sprinkle the dry spice cake mix over the apples, covering them completely.
- Pour the ginger ale over the cake mix, ensuring it soaks all the dry areas.
- Bake at 350º Fahrenheit for 45–50 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
Leftover and Storage
STORE – Keep leftovers fresh by covering the baking dish tightly with foil or transferring them to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days to maintain the best flavor and texture.
FREEZE – To freeze, portion the cake into individual servings and place them in airtight containers. This helps prevent freezer burn and makes reheating easier. Freeze for up to three months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
REHEAT – For the best results, reheat the cake in the oven at 350º Fahrenheit until it’s warm and the topping is crisp again. If you’re short on time, use the microwave, heating in 30-second intervals until warmed through.
MAKE AHEAD – Save time by assembling the dessert up to a day in advance. Cover the unbaked dish with foil and refrigerate. When you’re ready to bake, add an extra 5–10 minutes to the baking time if starting straight from the fridge. This way, the cake will still bake evenly and come out perfectly golden and bubbly.

Cn this be made with ginger beer instead of ginger ale?
I have never tried but I don’t think it should be a problem. It definitely works with Sprite, but I’ve never tried Ginger Beer. I’d keep the proportion the same. I’d love it if you tried and let us know.
Would pouring a stick of melted butter on before the ginger ale work?
You can use butter instead of Ginger Ale. But you don’t need to use both.
If you choose butter, I recommend melting one stick of butter and combining it with the cake mix, then crumbling the cake mix over the apple pie filling.
In this case you don’t need the Ginger Ale and it’s a more traditional Apple Dump Cake.
